Forward your number
If your customers already know your number, you can keep it. Your phone rings first, the way it does today. When nobody answers, or the line is busy, your phone company passes the call to your Bectify number and your receptionist picks up. This is called call forwarding.
Choose how callers reach you
- Go to your receptionist's page and select Setup.
- Open the Call routing card.
- Under How do callers reach you?, select They call my existing number.
- Select Save.
A card titled Forward your line to your receptionist appears. It shows your Bectify number, which is the number you forward to.
Turn on forwarding with your phone company
Forwarding is set up with your phone company, not in Bectify. You need two kinds:
- Forward when nobody answers
- Forward when the line is busy
Ask your carrier for their call forwarding codes for no-answer and busy, and point both at your Bectify number.
In Mexico, choose your carrier in the Your phone company list on the card to see its steps. See "Forward a Telcel line" or "Forward a Telmex line".
Forwarded minutes are usually included in your plan in the United States. In Mexico they may be billed on your mobile plan. Check with your carrier.
Turn off your voicemail first
If your phone has its own voicemail, turn it off, or set your carrier to forward after fewer rings than voicemail takes to answer. Otherwise voicemail picks up first and your receptionist never gets the call.
What changes when you forward
- Calls answered by your team never show up in Bectify. Your inbox shows after-hours and missed calls, not a full call log.
- In the United States, follow-up texts come from a different number, not the one your customers called. In Mexico, follow-up messages come through WhatsApp.
- If your receptionist transfers calls to a person, use a different line, like an owner's cell. Transferring back to your main number would loop the call.
Test it
Select Test my forwarding on the same card. See "Place a test call".
