Place a test call
After you turn on call forwarding with your phone company, test it. Bectify calls the current business phone you entered in setup, waits for the call to be forwarded, and tells you whether it reached your receptionist. Test calls don't use your credits and don't show up as leads.
Before you test
- Your receptionist must be live. If setup isn't finished, the test tells you to finish it first.
- They call my existing number must be selected and saved under How do callers reach you?. Until it is saved, the test button stays off.
- Call forwarding must already be on with your phone company. See "Forward your number".
Run the test
- Go to your receptionist's page and select Setup.
- Open the Call routing card.
- Select Test my forwarding.
- Your business phone rings. Let it ring. Don't answer it.
- Wait while the page shows Calling your number…. If it changes to Still checking — this can take a minute, keep waiting.
Read the result
- Reached your receptionist. Forwarding works. The result also shows about how many rings it took and whether caller ID came through: passed, not passed or not tested.
- Went to voicemail. Something answered before the call was forwarded.
- Never arrived. The call never reached Bectify.
For the last two, see "Why a forwarding test fails".
How many tests you can run
You can run 5 tests per hour and 20 per day. When you reach the limit, the page tells you what time you can try again.
You can only run one test at a time. If a test is already running, the page picks it up and shows its result.
Test again after any change
Run the test again whenever you change your phone company, your voicemail settings or your ring time. It is the only way to be sure that calls still reach your receptionist.
